This cultural study is the most exhaustive collection of Bohemian folk dances as recorded by Alfred Waldau from the mid-19th century onwards. Yet it is more than that: these dances were collected in a time when they were still largely “sung dances”, accompanied by songs rather than instruments. As a result, the book is also an utterly charming anthology of Bohemian folk poetry.
